Long Weekend

The long weekend is coming to an end soon and what have I done? Nothing much actually. In fact, my favourite pastime of late is to hibernate (at home). After a long week at work I just wanna have a restful weekend, everything else can wait till Mon or the next working day.

We were home for dinner at my parents' place and Mummy dearest forgot about our 'date' hence dinner was a 'simple' fare of curry, sambal tapioca leaves, fish, and winter melon soup. The curry was exceptionally tasty. Probably because I've not been home for 2 weeks so kinda miss Mum's cooking. Anyway, I'm quite blessed as both Mom and MIL are good cooks in their own ways.

Was watching a food programme on Channel 8 the other nite and they were featuring Hakka food and Da Pu Beef Noodle at Joo Chiat Rd was one of them. We chanced upon the shop 2 years ago and business was slow then, however, they are packed when we were there this afternoon. Ordered the beef noodle soup and claypot braised beef brisket. I prefer to the dry version as the soup tasted a bit blend. The latter however was disappointing. IMO, they are generous with the portion ($10) but the meat was not tender and the gravy lacks the punch. I've had better. If you a fan of popiah then I recommend you try out the shop next to it (many newspaper clippings to prove their popularity). It's packed with the right amount of greens, turnips, sweet sauce and the crispy bits, but I wish the lady had done a better job rolling the popiah as it was loosely rolled and the ingredients were all over the place, so kinda messy.

I've been wanting to try out this infamous curry puff place at 124 Onan Rd and I finally did. It was closed today but they had a makeshift stall that sells curry puffs and some bread. Oooo... they meet my expectations... you can taste the buttery texture of the pastry with the right amount of fillings. Two thumbs up! I'll definitely go back for more, and this time I'll pair it with a cup of freshly brewed Teh Halia.

Last but not least, we bought sashimi from Sakuraya from Parkway Parade which everyone is raving about. I'll let you know if it's as good as the reviews claim it to be.
